Title: Orphan Train

Author: Christina Baker Kline
Review: Molly Ayer has to complete a community service project by helping Vivian Daly, an elderly widow who in her youth rode the Orphan Train. Between 1854 and 1929, orphans from the east coast were placed on trains to be transported to families in the west. A child's fate was never assured, and most times, the conditions of a new home were deplorable. As Vivian recalls her journey and her life while sorting through boxes in her attic, Molly finds out that she has much in common with Vivian. While sad at times, this is a wonderful story of friendship, survival, and second chances.
